Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The 28-year-old Serbia player who is understood to have agreed personal terms with United, will undergo a medical at Manchester United in the next 48 hours, according to British outlet the Sun.

The Chelsea midfielder is set to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho in a deal worth £40million.

Matic is expected to pocket around £155,000-a-week at Old Trafford as Chelsea line up his replacement in Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The 28-year-old was signed by the Portuguese boss for £21m in January 2014 where he helped guide Chelsea to the Premier League title.

And he is set to replace veteran Michael Carrick, who turns 36 next month, in the heart of midfield.

The deal is expected to be delayed whilst Mourinho remains in Portugal mourning the loss of his father who died on Sunday.
