Have you heard about Spoof Website /Phishing?
This is another type of online fraud followed with the likes of vishing (the one you receive a call), money mule, email/text message fraud/spam.

Through the use of fraudulent emails and text messages, internet thieves attempt to "phish" for your confidential information. They attempt to steal this information from you by means of "pop-ups" messages or emails with internet links to deceive you into disclosing sensitive information (such as bank account numbers and details and Social Security numbers if you have any).

Often the email appears to be from a trusted source (such as your bank) and directs you to a *"spoof"* Website that requests you to divulge sensitive information or even ask you to call a phone number and provide account information. But the Website is a fake. First of all...

Check the web page URL
Normally, when browsing the web, the URLs (web page addresses) begin with the letters "http". However, over a secure connection the address displayed should begin with "https" - note the "s" at the end.

Try it! Type any web address.

Note the URL begins with the "http" meaning this page is not secure. If you click the link to "Log in" to fill any sensitive details, you'll notice the change in the URL? It now begins with "https", meaning the user name and password typed in will be encrypted before sent to the original server._* which is secured. Capische?

What you should look out for:

*Asking for personal information should raise a flag since Nigerian Banks will never send you unsolicited emails or text messages with embedded links or pop-up windows that ask for confidential information, such as your Social Security number, account numbers, ATM, Debit Card PIN and BVN.

*Urgent appeals claim that your account may be closed if you fail to confirm, verify or authenticate your personal information. Banks will never ask you to verify information in this way.

*Messages about system and security updates claim that the bank needs to confirm important information due to upgrades and state that you must update your information online. Banks will not ask you to verify information in this way.*

*Offers that sound too good to be true often are. You may be asked to fill out a short customer service survey in exchange for money being credited to your account, and you are then asked to provide your account number for proper routing of the supposed credit.

And lastly this people and typos and other grammatical errors are like yam beans.

*Typos and other errors are often the mark of fraudulent emails or Websites because they ain't relaxed. Always in hurry with their legs tapping and shaking *kpakakpaka* Be on the lookout for typos or grammatical errors, awkward writing and poor visual design.
