Nations Cup Final: Ghana Vs. Egypt [0 - 1] by nene1: 10:52pm On Jan 28, 2010
I am scared for Ghana now. Egypt has won 18 consecutive matches in the nations cup. They have also won the cup 6 times (including 2 times in a row). Ghana has won it 4 times. They have historically been good so they might have a chance against Egpyt but they have a lot of work to do. We need to forget about Ghana vs. Nigeria now and root for Ghana to represent West Africa. One of Ghana players said in an interview after the game with naija that they are not afraid of anyone and I hope they have that kind of attitude when the are playing the pharoahs.

It's interesing how the nigerians here have not responded to this post. I guess people are still not over losing to Ghana.
Re: Nations Cup Final: Ghana Vs. Egypt [0 - 1] by Tatase(f): 6:08pm On Jan 29, 2010
I can never root for Ghana unless they're playing a francophone West African side or South Africa or something. However, I dislike Egypt tremendously so I can't support them either. So ultimately, I really don't care who wins this match. . . any of them that likes can win. . .

Although after thinking about it a bit, I suppose I'd be a tiny bit happier if Egypt wins because it will mean that Ghana's senior team still hasn't won any merits since 1982 and then I can be petty and lie to myself that even though their senior team is evidently better than ours, we've won more recently than they have and so we're "better." Plus, I don't know any Egyptians, so what's my own, if they like, let them win 50 Nations Cups in a row, they're not bragging to me about it.

nicknamed The Pharaohs (Arabic: الفراعنة‎), is the national team of Egypt and is administered by the Egyptian Football Association. They are the current African Champions having won the 2008 African Nations Cup. Egypt were the first African country to participate in the World Cup when they played in Italy 1934, losing to Hungary 4-2. Egypt has qualified for one World Cup since then, going out in the first round in Italy 1990. They were known as the United Arab Republic national football team when Egypt and Syria joined to form the United Arab Republic from 1958 to 1961 and then until 1970, with Egypt alone making up the UAR. They have played for the Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games twice (1928 and 1964), losing both times.

What do you have against francophone west african countries?

Nothing really, but they have something (like a complex) against anglophone West African countries (if you're anglo going through West African franco borders, you'll see), so I tend not to support them in sporting events except against maybe South Africa.

I don't care who wins because I am an Arab west African francophone . should I root for an Arab team or an anglophone one.?
But after thinking a bit I might as well root for my neighbors Ghanaian's rather than the Egyptians .
I always feel I am an Afrcan first despite being also an Arab.

O really. I never knew that. The only contact I have had with francophone west africans is here in america, and we usually get along really well after finding out we are both africans. Is it a specific francophone country? Or is it most of them? Maybe within africa is different. But are you sure it's not just that they have something against nigerians specifically and not other anglophone west african countries. As much as I hate to say it, many other west african countries don't like nigerians due to the stereotypes (like 419, etc, ).

nigerians are bad belle people.

go to ghana and ask anybody.  whenever we are not in a competition and nigeria is, we ALWAYS root for nigeria. ALWAYS. I don't know about now but definately when i lived in ghana this was the case.

See as you are all hating on Ghana. Go Ahead. We don't need your support anyway.

we WILL win.

Who the fark is Egypt.  Football is played on the day between the two teams. Not by past merit. Otherwise, what basis would nigerians have had to be optimistic before the game against Ghana? how many times have you won the Nations cup? see my point?

As we say in Ghana, "we dont fear huuuuuu"  Egypt is waay overrated.  Watch and Learn, the rest of africa, Watch and Learn.

Ghana has not played well in this tournament. With that in mind, we just need to continue with our strategy -- score a single goal and then sit back to defend. After all the aim of football is to SCORE and win the game any way possible. Nobody said it had to be pretty. I've got my flag and fridge stocked with Star beer. Go Stars!
Re: Nations Cup Final: Ghana Vs. Egypt [0 - 1] by cgift(m): 1:18pm On Jan 31, 2010
this is a no-brainer. Egypt wins by all standards even if they paly with only 8 men.

Ghanna Kee? they cant beat Egypt even if they remain only goalkeeper. On my sport betting i have bet with $1000 for Egypt to win convincingly without any fear of treat from ghanna
