Wenger Speaks On Reports Of €140.5m Offer For Another New Signing by opezeroy: 10:54pm On Jul 15, 2017
Arsene Wenger has revealed what the current status is regarding his pursuit of AS Monaco star Kylian Mbappe.
The Arsenal manager has finally secured the
services of Alexandre Lacazette from Olympique
Lyonnais following his failure to sign him a year
ago.
But there is another French striker whom
Wenger tried and failed to lure 12 months ago
and that is the much-coveted Mbappe. Various reports from last month claimed that the
Gunners had submitted an offer for the young
goalscorer which had been turned down by the
Ligue 1 side. Mbappe has resumed action with Monaco for
their pre-season tour and Wenger insists the
highly-rated teenager is unlikely to leave France. “It looks like that,” Wenger said when asked if Mbappe would remain at Monaco. “Maybe he had too much choice, so in the end
people don’t move.” The Arsenal manager also denied reports that he
had made a substantial offer of €140.5 million
(£123 million) for Mbappe. “That’s not true,” he added. “People have big
imaginations. What we know now with Mbappe
is it’s over £100m, after that it’s free for everyone
to imagine. “But we have not made any offer. I think he will
stay, it looks like that, for one more season.” Be the first to receive breaking news about
