In this video, watch as some Africans ( Nigerians) took on this great Boa Constrictor and killed it. Was it a threat to the community , as of the time of this report, it hasn’t been ascertained. What should be of interest isn’t the killing of animal like this but sensitization. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and other relevant bodies must understand the need to educate, encourage and advocate for the need to preserve these animals.

The need for conservation and going green has been on the table of global leaders fuelled by green activists. Africa has been encouraged to preserve the fauna and flora. Animals are becoming extinct in Africa today. A lot of critics and nature watchers have attributed it to low sensitization on the need for Africans to understand that killing these animals is akin to killing their heritage.

Another school of thought, though escapist in approach, has opined that; Africans are poor and in dire need of protein. Protein been a bit expensive, the locals have resorted killing wild games. This is another area the Africans; especially in Sub-Saharan African gets their protein.

Another reason attributed for the decline of wild animals in Africa can be attributed to cultural believe and elitists demand for “exotic meat”. Tired of eating beef, chicken and fishes, the need to explore has always been there. Most times, these animals end up in the menu rather in the conservation reserves. A little walk in the Yankari Game Reserve in Nigeria , will demonstrate this. With no elephant, cheetah, lion and other animals traditionally and originally indigenous in the continent. The question is, where are the animals? Either they have ended up in the menus or as some fictitious curative of ailments and title trophy.
