Help! Nissan Xterra Smoking From Exhaust by palamo(m): 10:14pm On Jul 22, 2017
My 2006 Nissan Xterra just got back from a mechanic workshop after having the top gasket changed. Now its smoking like hell from the exhaust. I've been told to change the rings or replace the engine. Does anyone out there know the cost of a 2006 Nissan Xterra engine? Or do you think that changing the rings is a cheaper and wiser option. Is there any other cause of smoking from the exhaust? Thanks for your anticipated advise.

that engine is expensive. In the range of 600k.

Find a mechanic to rebuild your current engine.

Try to do diagnosis test to guide u in your decision, compression test or leak down test will let you know the condition of your engine ,piston ring condition and head gasket that was recently done before.

Let a professional inspect your engine. Compression could have been lost. A cracked cylinder block could have just taken place as a result of overheating

What are my options if the cylinder block is cracked? Can it be fixed?

Thanks all for your help. Will run a diagnostic today. Hoping its not a cracked cylinder. Will try and change the rings. Thanks once again

Don't waste your money. Find any of the above guys...they can diagnose what the issue is. Don't spend money blindly.

Wish I could. Unfortunately I'm based in PH. Have not met a reliable mechanic here before. Thanks again.
