A TYRE

A tyre is a thick piece of rubber which is fitted on the wheels of vehicles such as cars, buses and trucks. A tyre burst is a sudden open or fly apart of a tyre especially from internal pressure of that tyre. No one like to drive on bad tyres which of course dangerous, many people are scared of dealing with a tyre burst on the road. You can readily improve your safety by knowing the factors that leads to this problem.

CAUSES OF TYRE BURST
Stretching while driving occurs when there is incorrect pressure level or weight above the load index. Tyre burst happen when the PSI (Pound Per Square Inch) of a tyre is more than the PSI recommended by the manufacturer of a particular vehicle. PSI varies due to the fact that we have different vehicles produced by different manufacturers and it is calculated based on the weight of vehicles and distribution PSI can be found on a sticker usually fixed by the driver's door.
Friction is the main factor behind movement of vehicle and when this action is taking place there must be heat between the tyres and the road. If the PSI of a vehicle is 32 at the front and 40 at the rear and these tyres were filled beyond the specific PSI, while traveling on the road heat will occur thereby increasing the expansivity of the tyres, as they are expanding, the internal pressure will be increasing too when these tyres expands to its breaking point, it will burst and thereby resulting to accident.

WHAT IS PSI
PSI simply means Pound Per Square Inch. 1 Pound Per Square = 6894.75729 Pa. This is a unit of pressure or of stress based on avoirdupois units, it is the pressure resulting from a force of one pound force applied to an area of one square inch.

In Nigeria, 772 out of 9000 Road traffic accidents (RTCs)recorded in 2015 across the country were caused by tyre burst. This was made known by the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) most motorists in Nigeria both educated and illiterate are yet to know more about causes of tyre burst. in order to reduce the rate of tyre burst in Nigeria, the FRSC must educate motorists on PSI and expiry dates of tyres.

Nice piece.

If only our road users could pay more attention to things of this nature, accidents will be greatly reduced.
