Adding a little bit to what @GlitteringStar wrote, Most career opportunities in public health are inter, trans, or multidisciplinary so you will find people with MSc, MPH, MComm, etc, all working within the vast field. In most universities, an MPH and MSc will have a significant research component so some research skills and experience will be needed during application. One thing you will have to determine is the area of specialisation within public health that you find to be of interest.

You do have a competitive CGPA so start doing some research and looking at potential faculty members to approach. I have an MPH and currently do a PhD

GlitteringStar:

Hello Nwakaegoabisola,

*You have a good profile. @Bolded, why do you want to rewrite your IELTS exam? Most Canadian universities do waive English test for Nigerians. You can contact your program advisor for more details.

*Master of Public Health (MPH) is a professional master's degree in public health (course-based) while Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) is more research oriented (research-based). The differences include:

Nature: MPH is a professional degree while MSPH is an academic degree.

Research: In MPH, there is less focus on research while in MSPH, the major focus is on research.

Career opportunities: In MPH, the individual can move on to a career in public policy, administration, education, and so on while in MSPH,the individual can find employment in NGOs, state sector organizations, industries, etc. However, mostly, the careers in MSPH are related to academia.

Note: Students going for research-based programs also have a higher advantage of getting funding than those going for course-based programs.

*A "strong" application includes good GPA (which you have), good SOP, great LOR, and good GRE score (if required).

*To spread your risk, you can apply to 1 or 2 top-ranked schools, 1 or 2 medium-ranked schools and 2 safe schools (low-ranked schools).

I wish you the best! smiley

Thank you very much. Please one more thing, the GRE test is not very compulsory in the two schools I want to applyi for, Univ of Sask and Univ of Manitoba but I feel it might be an added advantage because my CGPA is 3.63 overall, although from what I researched on, I think they would evaluate just the last two years of study. Would appreciate of you can shed more light. Thank you

I just sent a mail, was surprised I got a reply because Manitoba would not rate your result until you submit an application but Saskatchewan actually rated it

How did you get your result rated .. would like to know please

Hello, please i would like to apply to University of Saskatchewan and University of Manitoba for MSC in Agric Economics (Research based). Have done my findings and those are the two schools that best fit my course. My CGPA is 3.63/5 although I think for the last two years it is more because I sent my result to University of Saskatchewan, it was rated 77%. My question now is do you think I should write a GMAT to increase my chances of getting an admission especially to Manitoba? Thank you

You can write it to bolster your application if you have the fund (GRE cost $205).

I saw this on University of Manitoba's website ------GRE (Optional but all students graduating from a university outside of North America are strongly advised to take a Graduate Record Examination.)

Why didn't you add in your prayers that God's will be done? It's one of the hardest thing in prayers to say, too bad many us as you don't want to include it. But it's the right kind of prayer-praying that God's will be done.

Yea very well. Let's include it in our prayers that is will be done.

Thanks

The main difference between the two qualifications is that a postgraduate diploma (PGDip, PgDip, PG Dip, PGD or PgD) is more extensive, generally taking around 30 weeks to complete if studied full time. This compares with 15 weeks for a postgraduate certificate (PGCert, PgCert, PG Cert, PGC or PgC).

Good evening everyone,

I would be applying for admission for September 2018 in Canada and I would be needing all the help I can get.

I want to go for a Masters in Public Health and sincerely I am confused. I hope you can put me through in your spare time like what city, how to prepare for visa, sending a killer application to the school. I have some schools in mind like UAlberta, SimonFraser, Manitoba, UBC and we all know application fee is not beans at all.

One of the things I am confused about is difference between MSc and MPH, in the sense that they say MSC is thesis based (E.g Alberta). So is it that in MPH, we won't do thesis of which I'm sure that is not possible.

Then the visa aspect, which would you advise paper or online route? Then home ties as well as sponsorship and also how to package an outstanding application to the school (especially the sop) because I'm not a skillful writer.

My profile is listed below:

First degree in Public Health, CGPA 4.29/5.00
IELTS: Overall band score, i am thinking of rewriting it.

Work experience
CSO in a bank: 2015 4 months.
CSO in engineering firm: 2016 - 2017 7 months.
CSO in an insurance firm: June 2017 till date.

Medical team member in my church for almost 8 years.
Also interned with NGO'S : 4 months
Volunteer experience also.
Interned and served at Lagos state ministry of health.

Thank you all very much and I would not mind if anyone could privately message me to put me through.

God bless and wishing everyone success in their endeavors.

@Justwise @yemdogg abeg I'm here o
All those schools are top ranked. Spread across lowly ranked schools. Infact just one top school, 2 mid ranked and 2 safe (low ranked). I committed that mistake when I was looking for USA

Sorry I couldn't reply your email.
If I may ask, when did your submit your application?
Try to link your apps at midnight or better still relax a little bit, that is if your apps has just been submitted lately.

Please guys. I am outside the Country and I need a Nigerian police report. Please how do I go about it. Thanks for your swift response in advance.

When I was doing mine here in Jos, Plateau, I was showing the inspector the fingerprints I took by myself on an FBI issued fingerprint card and sent it to them in the United States for an American police clearance certificate, since I lived there and had to obtain fingerprints for CIC for every place I lived more than six months. The inspector told me he has done police report too for someone abroad who sent him his fingerprints down to Nigeria. His parents he said brought the fingerprints in and his passport photocopy and signed forms.

Fill and thumb print the PCC form as in the sample and scan and send to someone in Nigeria to take it to police HQ, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos. they will attach your passport picture and pay not more than 5k. when they get it endorsed and with PCC, they will send it to you in whatever format you want. Good luck!

If your last 2 years of study is 77%, I will advise you apply to other schools like brandon, brock, windsor, etc.

Although you are asking the question in the wrong thread as this is for students, I will answer your question. The PR application process only in exceptional cases do take note of the program. the level of study and experience are more important than program name. I will encourage a person with a master degree in Yoruba to do it not to talk of History that is well recognized all over the world.
