There is a scary trend coming out of China – the country is making RICE out of plastic!

They are reportedly made from sweet potatoes, potatoes and a synthetic resin (aka plastic). The mixture of these ingredients form grains that resemble rice.

It is then sprayed with a chemical fragrance to make it smell like an expensive brand of rice called Wuchang rice.

There have been a few reports of the incidents of the consumption as well as the selling of plastic rice in Nigeria, due to their import from China.

Don’t worry! Here are some tips on how you can be sure your rice is fake or real.

#1 When cooking your rice, if you notice a thick layer on top of the water, it is probably the fake rice.

#2 If you try to put flame to plastic rice, it will emit a plastic aroma and also, burn like plastic would.

#3 Real rice will sink in a glass of water. Fake rice will float.

#4 If you put cooked rice on the counter for a few days, the real rice would mold!
