Anna Nicole Smith was born Vicki Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967, in Houston, Texas. After her father abandoned her and her mother when she was a child, she was raised by her mother and aunt, commuting back and forth to each caretaker.

At the age of 17, Anna (then Vicki) married Billy Smith, and that same year, they welcomed their son Daniel into the world. Time with Billy was short-lived and young Anna was left to care for her son alone.

In order to pay the bills, she began working at topless bars in Houston, where she was actually more noticed for her rear than for her breasts (she did not yet have the breasts that she's famous for today). But since she was not as rail-thin as the rest of the dancers, Anna didn't work the coveted hours of topless clubs and was instead scheduled during the afternoon shift.

Regardless, Anna (who then used several pseudonyms such as Nikki and Robin, before finally sticking to Anna Nicole) was discovered by a photographer, and quickly realized that she could use her body as a career tool. Since her childhood dream was to become the next Marilyn Monroe (her idol), Anna was inspired to make a name for herself.

After a breast enlargement (Anna insisted on having two implants inserted into each breast) and some cosmetic surgery, Anna was ready for the big time, and ironically, headed in the same direction as Marilyn Monroe. She entered the Play, boy Cover Contest, and appeared on the cover of the magazine at the age of 24. Two years later, Anna was crowned 1993's Playmate of the Year, which although is an honor in itself, led Anna to bigger and better things.

Thanks to her Play.boy appearance, Guess? president Paul Marciano, also responsible for the modeling careers of Eva Herzigova, Josie Maran and Shana Zadrick, saw Anna's potential and cast her as a Guess? model.

She made her big screen debut in the 1994 slapstick comedy, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, followed by an appearance in The Hudsucker Proxy, starring Tim Robbins.

If audiences didn't catch Anna in these films, they surely heard of her questionable marriage to oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II -- 60 years her senior -- on the 27th of June 1994. Anna remained low-profile with her wheelchair-bound husband, until Marshall's death in 1995.

In 1996, the former Play.mate filed for bankruptcy, after a former female assistant sued her for sexual harassment (she would have had to pay $850,000 U.S.).

Although Marshall had left Anna with an inheritance, his heirs claimed that she could not receive what he left her, accusing her of mistreating him in his last few days and not marrying him for the right reasons. She was not mentioned in any of his wills, but claimed that he offered her half of his money, to speed up her decision to marry him. After a bitter court battle between Anna and Marshall's son, E. Pierce Marshall, Anna was rewarded $450 million in 2000.

On August 4, 2002, the E! channel began airing its first season of The Anna Nicole Show. Although Anna had gained a considerable amount of weight, viewers tuned in to watch Anna make a fool of herself week after week.

Before the second season started, producers of the show demanded that Anna drop some weight before shooting began, and with the help of TrimSpa, a supplement that claims to block fat from entering the body, Anna trimmed down significantly and reportedly lost 80 pounds.

Although Anna Nicole looked great, The Anna Nicole Show was canceled in 2004.

Anna Nicole spent the next few years plagued with conflict. Her 20-year-old son, Daniel, died suddenly in 2006, and Anna was stuck in the middle of a suit to determine the paternity of her daughter, Dannielynn, in 2006 and 2007.

Amidst all the conflict, on February 8, 2007, Anna Nicole was found unconscious in her Florida hotel room. She was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital.

Reports are pouring in and the two most interest are from the top entertainment news shows, Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight.

In this alarming account, Access Hollywood reports:

According to a credible source, an employee of Anna Nicole Smith found her in her room in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The employee pulled back a sheet and discovered that she appeared to have choked on her own vomit.
The same source claims that Smith took what was referred to as a "children's sedative," and had "kept passing out" before her death.


Entertainment Tonight adds a few other interesting details.

According to this report:

Sources tell ET that Anna Nicole was suffering from flu-like symptoms upon her arrival [at the Hard Rock hotel] on Monday, but her fever had broken by Wednesday. That afternoon, she fell in the bathroom and hit her head. She said she was feeling fine, had a meal and went back to bed.
Today, she retired to her bedroom to take a nap. When she did not wake after a few hours, she was checked on and found unresponsive. Her eyes were also dilated.


As with everything Anna-related, her death is shrouded in mystery. And, unfortunately, it will probably remain that way for a real long time as the parties involved in her life will probably try to collude and evade the truth for as long as possible.

On Wednesday, a judge in Los Angeles had ordered Anna Nicole Smith to submit her daughter, Dannielynn, to DNA testing by February 21st, after she had failed to a court-ordered date to comply last month.

Smith has been in a protracted legal battle with photojournalist and former boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, who claims he is the true father of Anna's baby.

Smith's lawyer and "boyfriend" Howard K. Stern is listed on the birth certificate as the father.

After the news of Smith's death, an emergency hearing was scheduled to occur in Los Angeles on Friday regarding the paternity of Dannielynn.

Birkhead's attorney, Deborah Opri, wants to take a DNA swab from Smith's corpse, which her lawyer calls "the lowest form of behavior I've ever heard of."

According to new reports investigators found illegal narcotics and and prescription medications in Anna Nicole Smith's hotel room.

It is not known at this time what those drugs are.

A toxicology report will determine whether one of these drugs or a combination of both substances contributed to her death. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Anna's daughter might just be the lucky recipient of her mother's death, it is an opportunity for her to make a clean break from the pain and sorrow that belied the false smile on the face of a broken woman, a woman who was exploited by the media, the law, playboy, modeling houses and the morbid fascination of a country fixated on dumb blondes.

What a sad way to die. Choking on your own vomit with no goals, no dreams, no aspirations! Losing your first child to drugs, no relationship with your own immediate family, sparring over paternity suits with different men who were only after the money and not the baby.

Supreme Court rules against Anna Nicole Smith heirs


Smith married Marshall, a Texas oil baron, when he was 89 years old, and the billionaire died in 1995 without including the now-deceased former Playboy Playmate in his will.

The legal case began more than 15 years ago and many of the story's principal protagonists have died, which further complicated the case that reached the highest US court.

In a five-to-four decision, the court ruled in favor of Marshall's descendants and now the Marshall estate does not have to give one cent to Smith's heirs.

The legal battle first began in 1995 when the oil magnet died and Smith, who was 27 years old at the time, discovered that her late husband had left his entire fortune, estimated at $1.6 billion, to his son Pierce Marshall, despite the fact that, according to Smith, J. Howard Marshall had promised to leave her $300 million.

Since then the case has been scattered over multiple jurisdictions in Louisiana, Texas, California and eventually in 2006 up to the Supreme Court, which allowed Smith the right to try and collect on the inheritance by sending the case back to the courts.

During that time, Pierce Marshall died and his heirs took up the judicial battle.

A bankruptcy court in California had decided in favor of Smith, but a Texas state court ruled that J. Howard Marshall was mentally capable when he left his estate to his son and therefore his will was valid.
