ANNOUNCES:

(The last Professional Certificate courses for the year 2017)
Professional Certificate Courses in the following specializations:

Humanitarian Service: NGO Management; Fundraising for sustainability

The Institute is registered in Nigeria and has the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Justice. Our training curriculum was developed in partnership with the Abia State University while our programs are recognized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Nigeria. The Institute was formerly launched on 12th August, 2010 where the certificate was presented by His Excellency, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, CFR, former Common Wealth Secretary General who represented the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Over 18 batches of training has been conducted with about 1500 graduates who are actively involved in humanitarian services. The incumbent President and Chairman of the Institute is His Excellency, Senator (Gen.) Ike Nwachukwu, mni, CFR, GCMG.

AREAS TO BE COVERED:

(1) Humanitarian Services-NGO Management; with Child’s Rights & Welfare.

– Introduction to non – profit/humanitarian organization; typology and classifications, how to distinguish Foundation and Association from other NGOs; formation and registration.
– Structures of an NGO: Managing Board of Trustees, Human Resource Management, Administrative Structure and Staffing in NGO.
– Advocacy: Advocacy issues, developing advocacy messages, using advocacy to influence policies and effect social change, advocacy in child’s rights and protection
– Community Mobilization and Participation: Networking/Team Building for sustainability.
– How to develop Work Plan /Strategic Action Plan.

(2) Fundraising and Grant Proposal Writing for Sustainability

– Introduction to fundraising
– Methods and options in fundraising
– Strategies to succeeding in your fundraising
– Fundamental facts you need to know
– Needs Assessment/Community Needs Appraisal
– Introduction to proposal writing and guidelines

WHO CAN APPLY?
– Heads and Officers of NGOs, CSOs, CBOs, Foundations, Associations including Religious Organizations, Practitioners etc. concerned about the welfare of Children, Youth and Women.
– Individual development consultants, students and workers in the government and private sectors who wish to enhance their skills and build a career in development/humanitarian sector.

HOW TO APPLY:

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:
All applications and payments should be completed at least two weeks before the commencement of each courses for the various centres.

DURATION:
Minimum of four (4) days (depending on the participants availability and ability to complete all the courses) for each course, including one day field experience or as the case may be.

DATE AND VENUES FOR LECTURES:

– Lagos; 28th – 31st of August, 2017( Course 1), and 6th – 9th of September, 2017 (Part 2).
At the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development; Conference and Training Centers, 4 Alimosho Road, off Lagos Abeokuta Expressway by Iyana-dopemu bus stop, Lagos State and/or any other designated center on the Island or Mainland, Lagos, Nigeria.

– Enugu/Port Harcourt; 27th – 30th of Sept. (course 1) and 3rd – 6th of October, 2017 ( Part 2). The actual lecture centres will be communicated to you later.

– Abuja; 9th – 12th October combined class for both Fundraising and Grant Proposal Writing, and Humanitarian Services-NGO Management; with Child’s Right & Welfare.
Venue: At the National Boundary Commission (The Presidency) or IHSD liaison office at #5, Mubi Close off Chief Emeka Anyaoku Street, Area 11.
Please, note that Abuja Class is a combined class of the two courses and an extra lecture on peace and conflict from a UN expert, hence the fee varies from other centers.

CERTIFICATE/AWARDS:
The IHSD Professional Certificate shall be awarded at the end of the courses, which is acceptable worldwide. Special awards will also be given to participants that will come out excellently in academics/class work, field assignments, and in behaviour.

NOTE:
IHSD has graduated over 22 batches with 1,500 participants whose capacities have been richly enhanced and are today doing well in the humanitarian field as some of them are running their personal NGOs while others work with local and international NGOs, Agencies and Civil Societies. The Institute since 2010 has collaborated with Lagos State AIDS Control Agency to train NGOs operating in Lagos State and environs while it has since 2016 been receiving collaborative support from the Presidency through the National Boundary Commission to conduct that of the Abuja center training which some staff of the Commission and other Abuja based humanitarian-individuals have benefited from.

FOR SELF-SPONSORED APPLICANTS:
Course fees: N20, 000 per course and per participant (for Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu respectively), While course fees for Abuja is N40,000 because it will be a combined class for both Fundraising and Grant Proposal Writing, and Humanitarian Services-NGO Management; with Child’s Right & Welfare, with extra lectures on Peace and Conflict from a United Nations graduate in Conflict Matters. Fees covers light refreshment, certificate and course materials for Abuja Class.
