Leno and Rosemary LaBianca were murdered in their Los Angeles home by members of Charles Manson's cult, one day after actress Sharon Tate and four other people were found slain.


1993
Aug 10, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was sworn in as the second female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.


1998
Aug 10, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright announced a $2 million reward for information leading to the conviction of terrorists who bombed U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 people, including 12 Americans.


2004
Aug 10, The 20-year-old woman, who accused Kobe Bryant of rape, filed a federal lawsuit in Denver against the NBA star. The lawsuit was later settled out of court; terms were not disclosed.


2009
Aug 10, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the strife-torn Democratic Republic of Congo on the fourth leg of her seven-nation African tour. Clinton said she would press Democratic Republic of Congo's government to address the root causes of the conflict in the east and stop the use of women as "weapons of war."




2010
Aug 10, In Puerto Rico Coraly Campos feuded with her partner and told him he would never see the two children again. She then beat them, stabbed them with a kitchen knife and set the house afire. Her 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son died in the attack in the city of Trujillo Alto. Campos also tried to kill herself. On March 11, 2011, Campos (21) was convicted of first-degree murder, child abuse, arson, domestic abuse and violation of weapons laws.


2012
Aug 10, Four Chinese police officers admitted in court to covering up the killing of a British businessman to protect Gu Kailai, the wife of a senior politician charged with his murder. The officers covered up her involvement in Neil Heywood's death by "forging interview scripts and hiding evidence," agreeing to say he died of excessive alcohol consumption.

2014
Aug 10, In New Jersey a pickup truck drove through a barricade and into a farmer’s market in Hawthorne killing one woman who was dragged for three blocks. A man was taken into custody.
