The Premier League will kick-off on a Friday night for the first time in its 129 years history when Arsenal and Leicester meet.

Arsene Wenger's men finished outside the top four in the Premier League for the first time since 1996 last season.

Arsenal will be looking to end a poor run of opening day results in recent years. The Gunners have won only one of their last seven opening day Premier League fixtures, losing three of the last four.

Meanwhile, Leicester, who start a campaign for the first time under Craig Shakespeare, are on a 21-game winless run against Arsenal in the Premier League (D7 L14), with their only win against the Gunners coming in their first ever Premier League encounter in November 1994.

Arsenal will be without Alexis Sanchez for Friday's season opener after the Chilean sustained an abdominal strain in training, while speculation over his future continues.

Aside from Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi are all doubts while Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla are longer-term absentees.

oga u dont know what u talking about, the only big player to miss today's game is Alexis, reason is that he has abdominal injury, and he is not fully match fit, due to confederations cup and his extended leave.

Xhaka a DM?? Cazorla isn't playing until next year, Coquelin is as inconsistent as always and elneny is simply a backup.. Doing d same thing over and over again and expecting different results is foolish... Having too much of d same players is exactly what's been killing Arsenal . We have a Ramsey, d OX, Wilshere, Ozil , Cazorla all jostling for one position with none actually excelling at any in particular except for Cazorla.. Since Gilberto Silva left, dat position is still yet to b filled with d likes of Denilson, Alex song (dats d closest we we got) , Arteta , Flamini and most recently Cazorla and Coquelin. Coquelin was almost released after been played as a left and right back all thru his Arsenal and loan career before injury forced Wenger to try him as a DM...
