The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made a case for the creation of more voting centres in the state to decongest existing centres in the state.

Obaseki made the request when he received the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) posted by the National Electoral Commission to the state at the Government House in Benin City on Thursday.

The governor said that some Edo voters in the September 28 gubernatorial election complained that voting centres were located far from their homes while others complained that some of the centres were congested.

He maintained that the creation of more voting centres would encourage electorates to exercise their franchise in future elections as the issue of long queues that leads to time wastage would be minimised.

Speaking on the issue of the non-collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) he said that local government councils and state government agencies would be mobilized to fast track the distribution process to members of the public.

Earlier, the new INEC Edo REC, Mr. Obo Effanga said that the commission was working towards the creation of more voting centres in the state.

He explained that about 460, 000 PVCs were yet to be collected in the state and appealed to the governor to help mobilize the citizens to come forward for their cards.

He added that the voters’ registration process was on-going in the state and urged persons yet to register and those that have misplaced their PVCs to take advantage of the ongoing exercise.

This is due to the increase in the population of voters.

The Governor should at least laugh once in a while.
