17th December, 1999 remains a significant date in the world’s chronicle as a resolution adopted during the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in August, 1998 became validated by the United Nations General Assembly.
In view, since the espousal, there have been rising inclinations that as agents to effecting positive changes, the presence of young individuals is quite imperative.
This day was memorialized to express the importance of youths in the world and also to realize one of the Sustainable Development Goals (S.D.G.), which aims at ensuring responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision making at all levels.
Retrospectively, the world has experienced some vicissitudes as a result of the passion and determination of a number of young individuals like Mark Zukerburg, Malala Yousafzai, among others. In a similar vein, an ample of prominent people in the world commenced their works to positive development at a tender age.
On the emergent paradigms, one can attest to the verity that the supposed light that glitters at the end of the tunnel is about crossing the threshold.
The thesis for this year's International youth day is ‘Youth Building Peace”. This alludes to the nature and structure of the world today on the importance of young minds being crucial in ensuring world peace and security.
The saying “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow” is quite reflective, even more, the assertion buoys up a need to make sense of the core ethics, progression in dispositions and sharing the facts with the intention of directing the steps of future generations for fear that they might be subjugated.
The emerging trends in the world have counted in youths as rogues and hoodlums. Nonetheless, in Positive light, today’s celebration should rather focus on the countless youth who put their time and vigor into making the world a better place.
