Federal Government - In a bid to fill the gap between the operations of the Military and the Nigerian Police in tackling security challenges and emergencies, the President Muhamamdu Buhari-led federal government is considering establishing a National Guard.

The Federal Government is considering the establishment of a National Guard to address emerging security threats and emergencies in the country.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja‎ when the Adjutant General of the California National Guard, U.S, paid him a courtesy visit.

The minister however stressed that a lot of consultations would be done before any decision is taken in that regard.

He recalled that several years ago‎, the government had planned the establishment of a National Guard, but the idea did not come to fruition due to a number of challenges.

Mr. Dambazau explained that

Another move to inflate the already bloated federal salary structure.

Why do we need all these new. Pala military forces when if the existing ones were strengthened would have done a better job. Obviously there would be conflict of interests and job specification.

Who ever is happy for this better have a godfather in the APC helm of affairs, else no job for you cos the juicy part of the job would be handed over to their cronies while the rest, I mean the jobless ones would have more time to shout Sai baba on nairaland

How I wish we need not spend this much on security but as it is that's not possible hence it remains a step in the right direction.
