Laptops are very important work and fun stations. To ensure that our laptops lasts us longer, it is our duty to know the safe practices, how to, habits, acts, and behaviors that might cause us to lose our laptops. Here are 10 common mistakes that might cause you to damage your laptop or computer.

1. Using Your Computer Without An Antivirus Getting a good antivirus with paid license could be expensive but it’s always a wise choice to do so. Using your laptop without an antivirus software installed could cause you the following; * Slow system performance * Loss of important documents exposure to h*ckers through the installation of Trojan horses and tracking cookies on your system * And finally could cause total system failure To avoid the above consequences, get a good antivirus program for your laptop. Well written except I do not agree with point no 7. Your laptop is equipped with overcharge and over-discharge functions. If you work on your laptop for at least 8 hours a day, and it takes an average of 1 hr for your machine to charge up while it takes an average 3 hrs to discharge, then with point no 7 that means you'll have to charge up your laptop at least 2 times in a day.

There is what is called battery cycle. Battery cycle is one of the key factors that determines the longevity of a battery. That is the cycle at which you charge and discharge you battery over time equally affect its lifespan. Another factor is that higher temperature reduces battery quality over time and your laptop temperature is higher when on battery than when plugged into electrical outlet.

For point 1, it is better to be safe than sorry, use antivirus if you are not tech savvy. The downside of many antivirus software these days is that they slow down your system as well while doing their job. Sometimes it is embarrassing to find your system get infected with a virus or malware despite using a well updated top brand antivirus. Other effective measures to take is to have good firewall wall in place. When a system get compromise with dangerous script, virus or malware, it particularly want to establish their own connection to facilitate faster access and download tools to be able to completely high-jack the system. So, use an antivirus than comes with its own firewall or find a good firewall app.
One thing that computer users do to also compromise their system us running as administrator by default. The UAC feature in windows doesn't do much in preventing some script from executing especially when it comes through a browser or an app that already granted admin right by UAC during installation. I recommend running your pc with user or guest privileges by creating another account with any of these privileges to further minimize potential damages when your system is compromised. Many of these viruses, malwares and so on requires admin privileges to take control of your system.

People with low faculty do point no 2.

Do you know that the charging, discharging mosfet and charging IC are also prone to develop fault which you will end up getting "plugin not charging" or sometimes "battery not detected"

The fact that our laptop is build with plastic chassis this function doesn't mean we should over work it, they will develop fault too.

Nice one op, let me also add to this.

A lot of users will argue this but constant hibernating will damage the laptop motherboard, there are lots of motherboard that have gone due to hibernating.

Over charging/charging over night will damage the quickly.

Also, not shutting down properly will damage the hard drive.
