The modern era King of Clay Courts, Rafael Nadal has made a return to the number one spot of the ATP Rankings after about 45 months.

The 31-year-old last topped the weekly rankings in July 2014.

The Spaniard, who won his 15th Grand Slam title this year at Roland Garros, beat Britain’s Andy Murray to the top spot.

Roger Federer came 3rd and is trailed by Stan Wawrinka, with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic completing the top five.

Thanks to injury to Federer, Djokovic, and Andy Murray though injury has dealt with him for d past few years...

Novak no.5?!?!?! How come?
Rafa won Roland Garros but went on to fail woefully in Wimbledon, so how did he clinch the top spot? I don't see him retaining that no.1 spot for long though as the next grand slam, U.S. (hardcourt) open is not his forte.

Novak hasn't played any tennis since afta d elbow injury forced him to retire from his quarter final match in Wimbledon and he's out for d season.. Murray also hasn't played since Wimbledon and is still not 100% for d US open though he's likely to make it.. Nadal lost only one match between April and June on clay but d absence of Murray and Federer at Cincinnati helped his run to number one..
