After an abrupt and unceremonious exit from the Super Eagles, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is now expected to make a return to the team.

The former captain of Nigeria announced his retirement from international football after a row with former coach, Sunday Oliseh in October 2015.

Carl Ikeme took over as the number one goalkeeper of the Super Eagles until he was diagnosed with acute leukemia in July 2017.

Daniel Akpeyi was given the gloves in a 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa in Uyo, but conceded two goals in the loss.

This development forced the call for Enyeama’s return in some quarters and coach Gernot Rohr has now confirmed the Lille shot stopper will return, but not before the World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.

“Enyeama has had a knee meniscus surgery and he is not for Cameroon (World Cup qualifier double header), that is too early for him, but he will come later.”

On 26 March 2015, Enyeama won his 100th cap for Nigeria in a 1–0 loss to Uganda. Currently, the 34-year-old is the most capped national team player in Nigeria with 101 appearances.
