Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM)
Senior Associate or Higher

Job Objective/Purpose:

The SBDM (North) develops the marketing objectives and strategies in conjunction with the Strategy Committee, the Head, Business Development Division (North) and the Executive Director (Technical).
He/she must ensure the successful implementation of strategies so as to achieve business targets.
He must manage this process professionally and effectively in order to ensure maximum coverage of the target market and meeting of the company’s membership and funding objectives. This is a high-profile position in the marketplace necessitating superior communication and public relations skills.

He completely revamps the entire Business Development function of the BDD North with a view to increasing the market share in the North – specific emphasis is to be given to increase in HNI and private sector accounts.

Functionally Reports To: Head, Business Development Division (North)
Administratively Reports To: Head, Business Development Division (North)

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

DEVELOPMENT OF OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIES: Work closely with the Strategy Committee, HBDD and the line Executive in developing the company’s marketing policies, the objectives to be pursued and the strategies to be implemented in order to achieve these objectives. A high degree of ingenuity is required in deriving strategies and tactics to be employed in the market from time to time.

OPERATIONAL TARGETS: Ensure that business targets and objectives are developed for the Marketing/Sales teams, communicated and agreed to in writing. These targets and objectives should at least cover call rates, corporate business to be obtained, membership targets, average contribution per member, and industry and geographic penetration. Ensure that weekly meetings are held in order to establish progress and plan future activities. Written reports should be tabled at these meetings.

REPORTING: To prepare weekly written reports to HBDD regarding progress made against targets, and to set out planned activities for the forthcoming quarter. The report should contain an in-depth analysis of market penetration in terms of company strategy and objectives, set out developments taking place in the industry, and how the company may position itself to most effectively take advantage of its strengths and maximise the opportunities available.

MARKET RECONNISANCE: Ensure that trends and developments in the marketplace are closely followed so that the company’s product offerings can be adapted to suit changing needs that may manifest themselves over time.

PENSION REFORM ACT: Ensure that he/she is fully acquainted with the requirements of the Pension Reform Act 2014 and any related legislation and ensure that the requirements of the Act are adhered to in general and specifically as it relates to the position.


KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
· Increase in market share in line with annual PINs target
· First time funding drive for 2017 PINs
· First time funding drive for pre-2017 PINs

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Education Qualification:
Possess a minimum of first degree or its equivalent with a merit grade in Business Management, Business Administration or any related discipline, including the Social Sciences. An MBA will be an added advantage.

Professional Qualifications: Professional certification and or advanced training in related fields

Experience: A minimum of 5 years relevant professional post qualification work experience in a challenging Environment. At least 3 years must have been in the financial service sector and 2 years in Senior management position.

Age Bracket: 32 to 45

Track record of identifying market opportunities.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and senior management;
Track record of leading and developing teams and managing projects and programs
Strong proven client orientation and initiative in anticipating business needs and finding solutions.

Behavioral:
Ability to work under stress, good conduct and sincerity
Attention to detail, even under pressure as deadlines approach;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Must have a very good knowledge of Northern Nigeria
Must also be very fluent in Hausa, the dominant language of the North

WORK CYCLE (HOURS/DAYS)
Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm (may be required to report earlier and/or stay longer sometimes; might also be required to come in some weekends)
