This happened in front of Chambian plaza, Gwarinpa Abuja today. I drove in from Kubwa express way, stopped by the traffic light and the traffic light was on RED counting down to zero.

Just before the light turned green, a young lady (about 35 years) was crossing the road with her earpiece right in her ears and her phone in her hand. As she made her way around the Keke Napeps to cross to the other side, just in a flash of a second, the Keke driver accelerated and hit this lady and she fell down squarely on the road.

Thank God it was not a car that hit her or else she would have sustained very serious injuries. Luckily, she got up immediately as the Keke drivers and the car drivers behind waited for her.

Lesson: Avoid crossing the road with your earpiece in your ear whether you are listening to music or not.

Tell uniben students, it's like a norm over there @ least it's not so unusual seeing some of the students crossing main gate with their ear piece on. Even after it has caused some persons deaths, they still won't listen.

Does this still happen?

I remember a Uniben student that was killed by a speeding vehicle sometime ago. this particular student had the earpiece on and listening to music while crossing the road.

what a terrible way to die though..

it's just plain st.upi.d to have your ear-piece plugged into your ears while walking along a busy area/road. asides the risk of an accident, it is a security risk!

It's just a status symbol & some kind of competition. People only learn the hard way.
