ARA EKO (people of Lagos)

Lonely with the whole talks of the day
Substituting, substracting, adding and arguing;
No and yes conflicting within my head,
Why and how jouncing like my heartbeat.
Then a prophet sprout up to water the storm
And the two parties were descanting a new ditty.
Saying; "only a practical can solve this
Only a field experience can clear the incertitude
Only a first hand experiment can surmount the argy-bargy".
So, when the sun manned the pitchy dusk
And the dews melted before their husband,
The roof resume their hellish job.
I set out my sail.
OJUELEGBA, here I come!
No show really;
Except for a grandpa fighting for Ten Naira balance
No show really;
Except for a rivalry between *Agbero and his victims
Where heads were washed with blood
No show really;
Except for a strumpet dragging a man with long thing for rape
No show really;
Except a few exercise at gunpoint
And the noises that follow at OJUELEGBA round-about
No show really;
Except for the publicized copulation at *under-bridge
Even at *Itire-street, madness is absolutely free.
Safely, the night took me home.
And again when the sky speaks out its light,
I set my foot on track.
AJEGUNLE here I come!
I only entered a church for their persuading sermon
"Praise the Lord" prompted me to wave my hands
And before they could return to their post,
My phone, my wallet, my cap
And all that my pockets hold
All traveled and never return.
And when I tried the walk around,
Everywhere seemed a football pitch.
My trekking began, or I join the Lagosians
The cashless one
Begging each passers for a ride.
When again under my roof I found myself,
I was convinced—
ALABA here I come!
To replace the kidnapped gadgets.
I avoided a *Yoruba-Yoruba seller
For his high price market
Same to an *Abu-bakar, who sells only the inferiors
Straight to an *Emeka who triggered my nightmare
All I wanted is what's drawn on the box
On getting home *fufu and a carved stone
Is all I've paid for.
OSHODI here I come!
It was humourlessly funny
When two nigga with broader chests
Landed a five-star slap on my cheek
Took a laptop and its siblings on me
Away they went
Like Mississippi, all was tranquil, serene and clear
As if nothing has happened.
Even a closer eyewitness who I hoped will raise the shout
Was busy fanning her plantains
And in a quiet tone she persuaded:
" Brother, e ra boli ooo"
What else will I see in MUSHIN
what else will I see in IKORODU?
I quit my hunt
And sharply draw this conclusion —
"Eko will not do when they're not involved"
"Eko will not shout,
They'll keep the noises for revenge"
"Eko will not stop
Their engine never stop rolling"
"Eko doesn't care;
Just come with a story
Of success, failure, frustration or indifference"
And the good about LAGOS
Lies in the rumours carrying by all.
