BARKLEY SNUB A ‘SURPRISE’

Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri admitted Ross Barkley’s u-turn over his move to Chelsea came as a surprise.

“The two clubs agreed a deal of £35m and personal terms were agreed and after the medical we heard from Ross Barkley’s agent that he had changed his mind. He told us he wanted to reconsider and stay with us for the time being.

“It was a big surprise but that is football. It has been a very busy transfer window, we have brought in a lot of players especially in attacking areas. We have a lot of new players and it will take some time to gel. We are very happy with business. These are all Ronald Koeman’s signings.

“We have also Bolasie and Seamus Coleman fit in October, which will help the squad. We would like to finish as high as possible in the table.”

Leicester valued the player at £40m, but a compromise has been reached and Drinkwater is close to Chelsea's training ground in order to go through a medical.

We understand Chelsea may be given a couple more hours by the Premier League to complete the move and confirmation would come after the deadline.

Leicester have been pursuing Aleksandar Dragovic for over a year – and they finally have their man!

Dragovic, who is not in England, underwent a medical while on international duty with Austria.

The central defender signed a five-year deal with the Bundesliga club last season.
