There are various medical scholarships open for both undergraduates and postgraduate studies ranging from local to international scholarships. Admission into institutions of higher learning is the utmost desire of every aspiring student in order to achieve and fulfil the dream but unfortunately, many dreams remain a mere illusion and unfulfilled due to lack of funds or sponsorship. Over the years, i have observed with keen interest on the ways to secure one or more scholarship into the medical school to ease the burden of dependence on our sponsors for money.

This article will unravel 6 ways so relax let’s ride!


1. Information on medical scholarships:

Undoubtedly, information is very necessary for you to secure a medical scholarship. We are in the information age and quite a lot of opportunities are available to be grabbed and utilized.

There are various channels or avenues one can get informed but the predominant source is via the internet. Visitation of sites such as scholarship positions, opportunity desk, after-school-Africa, Bestacada just to mention a few will keep you abreast of any latest gist. You can sign up with their newsletters and follow them on social media to be readily updated. To be informed, there is also need to periodically check your state Ministry of Education and Information, state and federal scholarship boards for the latest medical scholarship and their tentative deadlines. Colleagues, Lecturers, Academic staff advisers, college councillors are equally sources of getting informed.

2. Apply as much as possible:

This is definitely another strategy that can be used to secure medical scholarships. You don’t need to be reluctant to give a trial to any opportunity. Be open minded and positive about them. Who knows? You can secure for yourself more than two scholarships for your undergraduate or postgraduate studies. The goal here is to apply and keep applying until your mission is accomplished.

3.Get your documents ready:

Many Medical scholarship bodies or agencies do require that you upload scanned copies of your credentials which include your birth certificates, O-level (WAEC, NECO or GCE) results, Local Government of Origin, First School Leaving Certificates (FSLC), a recent passport photograph, International passport and undergraduate transcripts for postgraduate programs. 4. Submit before deadline:

Every scholarship application has a deadline for submission. You don’t have to delay your application towards the closure period. The best way is checking up for your scholarships of interest to know their actual deadlines. Save it on your phone notebook and prioritize your schedules in order to submit as early as possible. Waiting towards the eleventh-hour will not only mount unnecessary anxiety or pressure on you but will cause a lot of mistakes in your application that could be easily avoided.

5. Submit the right information:

Filling in the application spaces is one thing, filling in the required and right information is entirely another thing. For instance, applicants whose phone numbers and functional email address are not correctly written will miss notification about date and venue for the interview and of course will not be shortlisted.

To avoid this, it is necessary to crosscheck the information prior to submission, dot your ‘I’s and cross your ‘T’s and also pay rapt attention to the essay questions on your application respond to them with well targeted answers. Be authentic with your application.

6. Study with past questions:

Before attending any scholarship interview, ensure that you know the nature of questions they do ask. Many scholarship questions varies ranging from verbal attitude to current affairs and perhaps general questions including your area of expertise. The use of past question will give you the basic knowledge which will boost your confidence and readiness for the interview.
