Dear filibust and just4just,

Thanks for the above enquiry and do appreciate your explanations.I take it is windows XP ?
I would like to ask some questions as to help us in narrowing down the cause. provided you follow
all advices given by the tecs am sure this problem will be sorted or refer to appropriate place.

what is the make and model of your computer ? this can be found on a white sticker at the back.

Here your diagnostics

use google to find out how you can get to device manager
to verify your sound drivers. when there right click on something
lik AC 97 or AUdiology Creative, yours may be different. right click
properties and tell us what it says. any error code ?

play youtube video and see if there is any sound.
if you get a sound whilst playing  youtube video then
the problem is to with analog and digital cd playback

type and i expect you to answer all questions. can you hear sound when you play

what is the make of your computer ? e.g. packard bell etc

look to your right
right click on a speaker icon.
playback device> playback
and recording make sure
they are enable by right
clicking on them

if no joy click start >run>services> press enter
and look for windows audio> right click and make sure is set
to[b] automatic [/b]not manual. start up typ started not stop
