The food Pupuru, may not sound familiar to anyone who doesn't hail from Ilaje, Ikale and Apoi of the Ijaw stock all in Ondo state, Southwest, Nigeria.

Pupuru is a delicacy derived from cassava with abundant carbohydrate, very low protein and micro nutrients. It has a distinctive flavour which distinguishes it from the likes of Garri, Fufu and Lafun.

This peculiar flavour has been attributed to its traditional mode of preparation which is the smoking and drying process.

Below is Pupuru in its ball shape which is later pounded into a fine powdered form.

I enjoy eating Pupuru & Egusi soup any time I visit Ode-aye in Ondo state...Pupuru is much better than Fufu.
