IPOB proscription illegal-Senate

The ban placed on the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, (IPOD) by the Nigerian Military is illegal, the Senate President, Olusola Saraki has said.

The Senate President made the statement in his facebook page today monitored by Irohinoodua. The Senate President stated “I also wish to state that the announcement of the proscription of the group known as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOD) by the Governors of the South East states and the categorization of the group as a “terrorist organization” by the Nigerian military are unconstitutional and does not follow due process”

The position of the Senate President is coming at a time thousands of demonstrators besieged the United Nations, (UN) Headquarters today to anger against President Mohammadu Buhari scheduled to address the assembly this week. The protesters carry Biafra flag as they march in large numbers backed by a retinue of foreigners.



He said further “Our laws make clear provisions for taking such actions and without the due process being followed, such declaration cannot have effect.”

Sources close to Irohinoodua hinted that the Senate President may have been adviced on the danger of the military taking over the functions of the National Assembly and the danger it poses to the future of the country.

He said further “I ma sure the President will do the needful by initiating the right process. This will go a long way in demonstrating to the world at large that we are a country that operate by laid down process underevery circumstance. So, those who have been hammering on this point should maintain their cool. The National Assembly will investigate the crisis in the South East.”

Obsevers thing the position of the Senate President may have been influenced by the legal advice he obtained from his advisers and the pressure from the international community.
