The Federal Ministry of Health confirms a case of Yellow Fever in Ifelodun LG of Kwara State. The index case is a young girl in Oke Owa Community, Ifelodun LGA and the viral disease was confirmed on September 12, 2017.

In response to the outbreak, a Joint Team from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and The World Health Organization (WHO) has been deployed to support the affected State.

Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms include fever, headache, jaundice, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. Some infected people may not experience any of these symptoms. In severe cases, bleeding may occur from the mouth, nose, eyes or stomach.
