As the widespread of fake news is becoming more dominant in the search engine result and poses problems to getting facts, Microsoft has entered the fight against fake news by introducing Fact check label to Bing.


This move is almost a year when Google introduced fact check in its News search result. The feature will help users find fact checking information on news, major stories, and webpages within the Bing search results

The newly introduced feature takes help from fact-checking websites like Snopes to notify users if the news is true or false. Microsoft, while introducing the criteria required for the tag to appear in the news stories said that the analysis must be transparent about sources and methods, with citations and references to primary sources included.

The addition of Fact Check labels means that anyone looking at search results should be able to tell at a glance if a particular news story has been debunked. The label can be applied to sites as a whole as well as individual articles, making it easier for Microsoft to alert people about poor news sources

“Claims and claim checks must be easily identified within the body of fact-check content. Readers should be able to determine and understand what was checked and what conclusions were reached,” the company said.

The tag (True or False) will be shown based on the reputation of the site checking the fact as well as ‘other factors’.

This feature is designed to help users to be aware wrong and factual information.
