Lonely in my room and staring at the ceiling,
Though my heart is having a heavy feeling;
Worried about this my great nation, Nigeria,
With her old leaders who you'd think suffer progeria.

Richly blessed with so many resources,
Human, minerals and strong armed forces;
But all for the love of crude oil,
Her people prefer to spill blood on her soil.

Our legislative as well as all her members,
Both those of the upper and lower chambers,
All earn wages and allowances from the masses,
That if shared will erase societal classes.

Our executives get the fat purse lean,
Leaving their point of duty to go see the queen,
Claiming it's a war on corruption that they fight,
But out in the metropolis, there is no light.

Our Governors are busy building structures,
Hotels, towers, never infrastructures;
They never try to make things get as simple,
Now there's no one smiling so I see no dimple.

Our judiciary may not be doing too fine,
Working to convict he who crosses the lion's line;
Instead of being the last hope of the common man,
They'll rather work with the elite to perfect their plan.
