How To Get A Free Custom Domain On Freenom by Jollyana(f): 8:23pm On Sep 24, 2017
If you love free things as much as I do, then this article is for you. You can actually get a free custom domain courtesy of Freenom. This means that you can finally get rid of the ..com extension. That extension makes your blog url look unprofessional plus, its too long.

But with this free custom domain from Freenom, you will never have to pay for a domain name, well forever. Cool, right? I know. So...

Getting a free custom domain on freenom for blogger

To get started, first we will need to visit Freenom's website and create an account. Once you fill all your details, sign up. You will later be redirected to a client area. Just at the top, you will see a domain name search box.

Enter the domain name that you prefer and search for it. If its available you will be shown several domain name extensions you can choose from for that name. Currently, freenom offers free .tk, .ga and .ml domain extensions. Anything aside from that is not free, so you will have to pay.

Select the one you prefer, add to cart and proceed to checkout. You will be offered some options for how long you want to use the domain. It is preferable that you pick the 12 months/free option. Then proceed.
Note: After this one year period is over, you can renew the domain name again. Its still free of course.

Your free custom domain name registration is finally complete.

Freenom free custom domain name installation guide

Log in to your blogger account and click on the 'settings' tab then 'basic'. There you will find an option to edit your blog URL. Under that, you will see an option to 'add 3rd party URL'. Click it and add your new registered URL, then save.

An error comes up and the new domain name doesn't save. Don't worry, there is no problem. You just have to convince google that the domain name belongs to you. How? In the error message that displays, you were asked to add two CNAMEs to your domain's DNS (domain name system). Its easy to do that.

Go back to freenom and login again. At the footer of the page, you will see the link to 'my domains' in the client area.. Tap the link and you will be redirected to the free custom domain name you newly registered.
Tap on the 'manage domain' link and you will be directed to a series of options. Tap the 'manage DNS' option.

You will then be directed to the DNS records for your domain. At the bottom of the list, you will find the option to 'add new'. Tap it. Put the CNAMEs into the fields as shown in the example and save.

Name:www

Type: CNAME

Target/destination: the.google.com

Go back to blogger and try to resave the free custom domain again.

Note: It could take a little while for google to notice the changes in your DNS. Just wait for about a minute or there about before retryimg.

Great! We've finally gotten a new free custom domain on freenom and successfully
