Virtues Of Fasting IN The Month Of MUHARAM by smallrincowis16(m): 11:27am On Sep 25, 2017 |
The virtue of observing a lot of naafil fasts in the month of Muharram Is it Sunnah to observe a lot of naafil [supererogatory] fasts in the month of Muharram? Is there anything special about this month compared with other months?. Praise be to Allah The month of Muharram is the first month of the Arabic year, and it is one of the four sacred months of Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein” [al-Tawbah 9:36] |

THERE'S NOTHING SENSIBLE IN RESURRECTING AN ABANDONED PRACTICE # What is crystal clear is that fasting on the day of Ashura was pre-Islamic practice which was also practised for some times (in Islam) before the advent of Ramadan's fasting. # That Nabi commanded fasting of tasua and Ashura as a result of what he "learnt" from the Jews after the advent of Ramadan in the 2nd year of hijra, is a gross lie against Islam. Fasting on/of Ashura is obviously an abandoned fasting. And there are too much lies and inconsistencies attached to the Ashura fasting making it more doubtful. # Imam Bukhari documents an Hadith that perfectly gives summary of the whole epilogue and give understanding and the practice of a Sahabi: Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet (s) observed the fast on the 10th of Muharram ('Ashura), and ordered (Muslims) to fast on that day, but when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was prescribed, the fasting of the 'Ashura' was ABANDONED. Abdullah did not use to fast on that day unless it coincided with his routine fasting by chance. Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1892 In-book reference : Book 30, Hadith 2 http:// www.sunnah.com/bukhari/30 # You can read our exposition of the so-called Ashura fasting here: www.nairaland.com/3394383/significance-ashura-part |
