It is not a news that the rules and regulations governing the Students of the Federal University of Ilorin is based on Religious sentiment. And most of the actions or penalties against anyone that fails to abide by the rules are just to strike fear in the mind of the Students. By this it is safe to say the school rules their student with fear of uncertainty. A school where the number one Student was slapped by a Sub Dean for trying uphold what is right. I can testify to this cause I am a student and I experience this first hand.
Regarding the issue of Dr. Kayode Afolayan being sacked by the school is no surprise to many of us students from the department of English. It's been expected cause Doctor Kayode Afolayan who is a Lecturer in the Department of English is totally against the ways of the school and will boldly stand against it on any front. He was actually on Suspension throughout the 2016/2017 academic session.
He was one of the Lecturers that stood firm with the then 200lvl now 400lvl Student that exposed the former HOD of the Department for sexual harassment. After the girl leaked the audio tape online, she was witch hunted by the school claiming she used a fake state of Origin Certificate. A thing that most students are guilty of due to the favouritism placed on Ilorin Citizens over others in terms of admission.
Dr. Afolayan though have his own flaws but he is one of those few Nigerians that still stand for the truth.
