Bayern Munich on Thursday sacked their head coach, Carlo Ancelotti following their historic 3 – 0 loss to PSG on a day earlier. 58-year old Carlo Ancelotti was relieved of his duties after heading the team for one full season. He was immediately replaced by Willy Sagnol who stands as the interim coach pending the appointment of a new head coach by the club.

Additionally, he was once the head coach at Bordeaux for two seasons before he found his way back to Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti came under heavy criticism after he left out superstars Ribery, Robben, and Hummels from the starting eleven of the game.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had this to say in an interview;

“The performance of the team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put to them,” Rummenigge said as the news of his sacking was made official on Thursday.

“The game in Paris clearly showed that there had to be consequences. Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and I gave Carlo an open and serious talk today and informed him of our decision.

“I would like to thank Carlo for his cooperation and regret this development. Carlo is my friend and will remain so, but we had to make a professional decision based on Bayern’s interests.

“I now expect the team to have a positive development and absolute determination, so we can reach our goals for this season.”

On Sunday, the new interim coach is expected to lead his boys to Hertha Berin in the team’s upcoming Bundesliga game. He is expected to win the game. Like the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected from him.

His performance in the next match will better his chances of becoming Bayern’s new coach.
