Pregnancy scan is an examination where an ultrasound machine sends sound waves through the womb (uterus) to access the fetal well being. These sound waves bounce/reflect off the baby as echoes. The reflected echoes are then turned into an image on a screen which then shows your baby’s position and movements.

The medical personnel performing the scan is called sonographer, and they look at these different shades on the screen to interpret the images into result.

First-trimester scan will check the baby’s heart beat and also look at the basic anatomy of your baby’s head, abdominal wall, and limbs.

Ultrasound scan is safe

Ultrasound scans have been used in pregnancy for decades and has been said to have no harmful effect on but the baby and the mother.

Studies have found no link between ultrasound and birth weight, childhood cancers, eyesight and hearing.
