The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) who are not impressed with the state of education in the institution lamented that transition of the school from polytechnic to university is causing a lot of hiccups in the institution. The students revealed that since the institution was upgraded to university, examinations have been on hold. They also said that they have written a series of letters to the governor but he is yet to respond to their grievances which prompted the mass action.

“We've written letters to you and also issued a 72 hours ultimatum but your government is yet to respond to our letters as we speak,” the students said when addressing Governor Amosun in the state government’s house.
The students further challenged the governor to carry the citizenry along in his policy making.

“You were known to be a man of the people and during your electioneering campaign; you came down to the level of a lay-man on the street. If you can do that then, we see no reason why you could not adopt that method to solve burning issues affecting the people.”

While responding to the students, the governor shifted the blame surrounding delay in examinations to the management of the institution. The governor also claimed that the management of the school is mischievous and driven by personal motives.

The governor said, “Some people that have been given the assignment are not serving us well, mischievous, and that is why you are here. The only reason they are not doing your exam is because they think they can hoodwink or blackmail us to submission. Your lecturers are not comfortable with us employing new staff to work at MAUSTECH.”

“We have told your lecturers to conduct examinations for you. They will have to do your exam because they are being paid for it. We will get them to ask why and they should be able to explain to us why they are not conducting it," he added.

“What they are saying is that they want all of them to be automatically admitted into Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology and we said no. Of course in their letter, they are not employed for the university but for Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. We will allow them to serve their term and when they finish, if they are qualified for university, we will take them.”

Dissatisfied with the response by the governor, the students demanded that Governor Amosun swing into action as they ought to be preparing for another session.
One of the students, Johnson Emmanuel said, “we cannot be in a situation whereby we are not writing exams, the governor has not said what we want.”

Another student who introduced himself as Tijani Oluwatosin said, “students are not happy because we are unable to write our exams. We should have concluded this session but it’s unfortunate we have not started exams. The governor and school management are cajoling us; we want them to act fast.”

The students resolved to hold a meeting with the school management to negotiate on when to start examination in the institution as directed by the governor.
