Olu Abiodun aka DJ Olu, at just 25, was wearing many caps.

He was a director at his father’s company, the CEO of a company that customizes vehicles and a Disc Jockey who played several shows alongside close friend and music artiste, Davido.

In Nigeria, how many 25-year-olds shoulder so many responsibilities?

But all of his dreams and ambition were cut short when he died suddenly.

On the evening of October 7, a team of policemen and other emergency services rushed to answer a distress call at Banana Island.

They got to the scene - an underground garage where a BMW car with number plate KJA 631 AY held the lifeless bodies of Olugbenga Abiodun and Chime Amaechi, who was also aged 25.

A preliminary investigation suggested that they died of drug overdose, with substances believed to be banned substances discovered in the car.

This was confirmed to Bounce News by the Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, ASP Famous Cole.
“We are still doing preliminary investigations, trying to find out where they were the day before, where they were and who they visited on that day, these will be areas that the police will be looking at. It’s too soon to know if there was foul play.

"We still have to carry out an autopsy, and take the things we found at the crime scene to the lab. Whoever was at the scene will be interrogated too” ASP Cole said.

This time, Davido who has been in the news lately over the controversial deaths of DJ Olu and Tagbo Umeike, can breathe easy, as he was in faraway South Africa at the Macufe Festival in Bloomfontein.

So unlike in the case of Tagbo Umeike, he would not be invited by the Police in connection to this new death.

The question now is, what could have led to the deaths of these influential young men?

Olu, who is the son of Heyden Petroleum boss and oil magnate, Dapo Abiodun.

Speculations are rife on the possibility of a drug overdose, given reports from certain quaters that hard drugs were found in Olu's vehicle.

This also begs the question - what could had led a young man with so much drive and potential towards hard drugs?

His last Intagram post before his untimely death read “Patience is Bitter but it's fruit is sweet, we may not have everything we want today but it doesn't mean it's not coming”

The post sounded hopeful, but Clinical Psychologist, Toyin Abimbola while speaking to Bounce News pointed out that at such a young age with so many responsibilities, it is possible that he was under a lot of stress.

“It’s possible he tried to seek help and people told him, but people told him to be ‘a man’. He might have possibly bottled it in and could have become depressed so he found another way to get out of it.

"The expectations people have of people like him is high so they do not seek help. When they seek for help they start to feel less of themselves. We feel that they should be immune to everything, which is not possible.”

Meanwhile, Hypeman and Head of Corporate Sponsorship for Davido’s record label DMW, Special Spesh, believes that ‘some people’ had a hand in his death.

“I disagree!!!!!!!!! they know I say my mind!!! ask them wat they did to him or wat they used him for o!!!! #staywoke!!” he wrote on Instagram.

The Abiodun family have since released a statement signed by Olu’s elder brother, Seye denying that their son had anything to do with hard drugs.

They also pleaded with the public to disregard insinuations being peddled by certain sections of the media and allow them to grieve privately.

Whatever the case may be the truth will eventually come out.

Rest In Peace DJ Olu.
