*COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON DIABETES*
*What is diabetes?*
Diabetes is a condition in which the body cannot properly process food to use as energy. The body cannot make use of the glucose in the blood because either the pancreas is not able to make enough insulin or the insulin that is available is not effective. This causes sugars from food and drinks to build up in the blood, which is dangerous to your health.
*What is a healthy glucose level, and why is it important to maintain?*
Healthy glucose levels: Before a meal – 70 to 130 mg/dl ,After a meal – less than 180 mg/dl
When glucose levels get too high or too low they could be life threatening.
*What causes diabetes?*
The following factors may increase one's chance of getting diabetes: Family history of diabetes or inherited tendency, Being overweight (20 percent or more over your desired body weight), Physical stress (such as surgery or illness), Use of certain medications, including steroids and blood pressure medications, Injury to the pancreas (such as infection, tumor, surgery, or accident), Autoimmune disease, High blood pressure, Abnormal blood cholesterol or triglyceride levels, Age (risk increases with age), Alcohol (risk increases with years of heavy alcohol use), Smoking, History of gestational diabetes or delivery of a baby weighing more than 4.1 Kg.
*What are the symptoms of diabetes?*
The symptoms of diabetes include: Increased thirst. Increased hunger (especially after eating). Dry mouth. Frequent urination. Unexplained weight loss (even though you are eating and feel hungry), Weak, tired feeling, Blurred vision, Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, Slow-healing sores or cuts, Dry and itchy skin (usually in the vaginal or groin area), Frequent yeast infecportions

*What is pre-diabetes?*
Pre-diabetes means the blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be considered diabetes.
*What is the difference between pre-diabetes and diabetes?*
Pre-diabetes means that the cells have started having trouble using the glucose, the blood glucose levels are higher than they should be but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.
Being diagnosed with diabetes means that the blood glucose levels are consistently too high above normal to allow the body to properly process sugars.
*What is the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?*
There are two main types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2.
Type 1 diabetes – formerly called juvenile diabetes – is usually diagnosed in children, teens or young adults.
With type 1 diabetes, cells in the pancreas stop making insulin because the body’s immune system attacked and destroyed them.
Type 2 diabetes – formerly called adult-onset diabetes – is the most common form of diabetes.
This type of diabetes can develop at any age and usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition where fat, muscle and liver cells do not process insulin correctly. Over time, the pancreas cannot secrete enough insulin to manage meals.
*What is gestational diabetes?*
Gestational diabetes is a kind of diabetes you can get only while you’re pregnant..The condition develops when the body can’t make and use all the insulin it needs during pregnancy. Without having enough insulin, sugar can’t leave the blood to be used as energy.
*What can individuals do to reduce their risk of developing diabetes?*
Choosing to live a healthy lifestyle through changes in diet, increasing your physical activity level and maintaining a healthy weight are three steps you can take in the right direction toward diabetes delay or prevention.
*Tips to help prevent diabetes*:
Choose lean meats and limit red or processed meats. Eat breakfast daily. Manage your weight Choose healthy fats and proteins. Eat a higher proportion of fruits and vegetables. Get at least six hours of sleep each night. Choose whole grain foods instead of highly processed grains. Limit refined carbs and sugary drinks. Eat less by eating slowly. Make exercise a priority. Quit smoking. Eat smaller portions

*What Is Insulin?*
Insulin is a hormone which is secreted by the pancreas. Insulin aids in the body's absorption and use of sugar and helps to lower blood sugar level.
*What is an insulin pump?*
An insulin pump is a small computer that delivers insulin to the body through a small catheter.
*Must I Go On Insulin?* *Does a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mean I will have to go on insulin?*
No. People with type 2 diabetes may or may not ever need to take insulin injections, depending on several factors, including the timing of diagnosis. Research indicates that if type 2 diabetes is treated early and blood sugar is controlled initially and over the years, the pancreas is more likely to produce enough insulin longer. But a person who lives with type 2 upward of 15 years is unlikely to continue to make sufficient insulin and will need to take insulin via syringe, pen, or pump.
*What are possible health complications of diabetes?*
Health complications that can be caused by diabetes include heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and lower-extremity amputations.
*Can Neolife product help with diabetes? Yes.
