Lagos ranked as the eighth worst megacity for women according to the first international experts’ poll on how females fare in the rising number of cities with over 10 million people. Nigeria’s largest city with an estimated 13.7 million people was sixth worst when it came to harmful cultural practices such as female genital mutilation and forced marriages and seventh worst for women to have access to economic resources such as education, land, and financial services such as bank accounts and loans.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Thomson Reuters, the world’s largest news and information provider, conducted a survey in 19 of the world’s biggest megacities as ranked by the United Nations.
