President Buhari has directed that the current railway projects should cut across all states of the federation.
In a disclosure made by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, said that the central rail line projects linking several northern and southern communities will be completed in June.
He also disclosed that funds to be used in the project completion of the rail projects connecting Kano-Kaduna and Lagos –Ibadan are still awaiting approval from the senate. Providing insight on the projects he said, 10 of the 17 expected coaches will be used for the Kaduna- Abuja rail line while seven will be used for the Itakpe-Warri.
However the Chairman Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Sen. Shehu Sani disclosed that “The committee has the mandate to examine the merits and otherwise of the current loan request of 5.5 billion dollars of the president.
“If we must bequeath to the future generation a pile of debt, it must be justified with commensurate infrastructural proof of the value of the debt. We must leave behind a legacy that will appease and answer the questions the next generation of Nigerians will ask”
The 17 coaches are expected to arrive in November.
