An eerie video has emerged on social media, which shows a headless fish swimming in a water tank.

The goldfish, which appeared to be green, can be seen pushing its body against water by its fins.

The owner of the fish, from Taiwan, said the goldfish's head had been eaten by a puffer fish he owns.

Lin Shaolun, who claimed to be the owner of the goldfish, posted the clip on a Facebook group known as 'Bao Liao Gong She' on October 20.

Lin claimed his goldfish had been swimming without a head for three days.

Lin, from Taiwan, said his Shubunkin goldfish was meant to be fed to his puffer fish.

However, the goldfish remained alive after having its head bitten off.

Footage shows the headless Shubunkin swimming in circle in the tank, whereas another orange fish hid below the plant.The video has shocked many viewers.

Some people described the goldfish as 'a zombie fish' while others questioned if it was 'a dead fish coming back to life'.

Some web users pointed out that the puffer fish had only bitten off the jaw of the goldfish, and that was why the goldfish could have survived for such a long time.

One of then, named 'Chenshenhuo', commented: 'The fish did not loose its head but only its jaw and a gill.' 

There were also people suggesting the owner throw away the fish right away.

'The wound can potentially lead to bacterial infection and it could contaminate the water,' said 'Alan Lan'.

IFLScience.com explained that there are cells that can still respond to stimuli, though the brain and the heart are not functioning.
