Under the new tuition regime, fresh non science students that used to pay N150,500 will as from 2017/2018 academic session, pay N210,500, while those going for Sciences, Anatomy/Physiology will have to pay N245,500, a over 120% increment from the previous N110,500.


Also, from the N135,500 paid last session, Nursing and Law students are to pay N285,500. Public Health students that used to pay N110,500, will, as from the beginning of 2017/2018 session pay N285, 500. Engineering students, from the N110,500 paid last session will be paying N250,500.

A lot has been said about the recent fee increases in UNIOSUN. People are using this as evidence that govt does not care about education.

The truth is...well...let's go bulletpoints

1. In 2009., ASUU and FG signed an agreement guaranteeing extra funding...in addition to the normal budget for universities....of 3trillion naira over 2 years.

2.BY 2013, The last admin told ASUU that this money was not feasible . KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS WAS THE TIME OF GEJ WHEN THE ECONOMY WAS THE LARGEST IN AFRICA....and govt did not have the finances to pay for extra funding for universities.

3.After that, fee increases happened in UNN, UNIPORT,OAU, FUTO, etc. UNIOSUN is just the latest.

4.Universities abroad look nice because fees are as high as $20000 and above.UNIOSUN even with this fee increase....it means students will pay just 700 US dollars

5.And even then, that is not enough.....assuming UNIOSUN has 3000 students...that means they earn just 3million US dollars. An average good uni needs $100million dollars as budget costs.

6.Free education. Yes....in Denmark and Germany. But citizens there pay half their salary in taxes for the privilege.
