I have a vehicle I will be putting on the UBER/Taxif platform in a few days, i will document the process and procedures I will take and also cost implications of such an investment. I actually inherited this vehicle, It is a 2008 kia rio, manual transmission. comes in a 1.4liter petrol engine. It is a sedan. Idealy I would have bought an automatic, but I am working with what I have currently. |

one of the dowsides of this vehicle is that it uses a timin belt. pics of timing belt change are not available at the moment, they are on a staffs phone and he will be back in town on sat. Lets skip the pics on timing belt and cover other grounds. Fuel consumption was a bit high, but it didnt take any special diagnosis to find out why, kazeem had thrown out the thermostat and wired the fans directly. From cold start vehicle temp guage should hit half mark in 15mins (max) irrespective of external weather conditions. On wet days (in rain) temp should remain steady at halfmark and not drop, if it does, there is no theremostat in coolant housing or it is failing. For this particular vehicle, there is no temperature guage. The silly designers felt there was no need to put a metered temp guage, so instead, they put 2 lights by the temperature signs. BLUE and RED Blue light: This indicates engine coolant temperature is below 50deg celcius Red light : coolant temp is above 100deg celcius. Blue light. www.nairaland.com/attachments/6198594_img20171101064021_jpeg910c5c88a6d301aa214b4bf3c8e50287 In my case the blue light stays on for over 20mins , meaning idle speed will remain over 1,000rpm (trying to warm engine up) and longer pulses on injectors to warm engine up quicker by over fuelling.To solve this I will buy and install an inexpensive part that most Roadside mechanics throw away, a thermostat. I will also inspect entire coolant system for leaks, drain water in system and install high quality toyota coolant. Im sure you wondering why I am adding toyota coolant into a kia, well, I am sure of the quality and source, and I am not breaking any laws  To make this quicker I will skip a few pics, but put them later. Next suspension. My intention is steady income, so I would not want to hear stories like I had a flat or damaged tyre, so a set of *brand new* tyres come to play. Pics here. I already checked suspension parts and It is in top condition, but essentially for any one who is about to go into transport business. Essential Suspension parts to check are. Ball joints, lower control arms, brakepads C.V joints and struts. To ensure tyres last long alignment is necessary, and tyre rotation (front to back) at every oil change to avoid uneven wear. brake pads are essential for bringing a car to a halt. I am avoiding every possible story or breakdown, so I will swap out the unknown brand and place a pair of original mando brake pads, good to go for almost 50,000km (~10months) Next brake fluid. Brake fluid should be drained and refilled every 100,000km. I will be installing ATE brake fluid, it is not corosive and brake seals last longer with this brand. Pic ATE Next looks... |

This is a 2008kia rio, it has a lot of contenders in its line of work, and drivers are always complaining about ratings. Oga sir, what's your take on Kia Sedona 2000 UK right hand with a turbo engine. I just offloaded my troublesome Chevrolet venture and some asked me to come pick up the Kia. It's been parked for long, i will need to change the steering wheel to left hand. Please what are the downside of maintaining this turbo engine? I will urgently appreciate your input. God bless |
