Cesc Fàbregas born 4 May 1987 is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Premier League club Chelsea and the Spain national team. After featuring for Chelsea vs Roma on Tuesday, Cesc Fàbregas has joined the elite group of players to have made 100 UEFA Champions League appearances thereby increasing their number to 33 players.
He made his debut in Champions League for Arsenal against Panathinaikos and won a total of 55 caps scoring 13 goals for Arsenal while in premier league, he played 212 times scoring 35 goals in the process. Having won 2004 community shield, 2004/05 FA Cup and UEFA Champions League Runners-up medal in 2005/06, Fàbregas left Arsenal to join Barcelona in a deal worth £35 million on 15th August 2011 which’s not a bad business deal for Arsenal having signed him from Barcelona’s youth academy(La Masia) at 16 years in September 2003.
Cesc spent 3 years at Camp Nou playing alongside Xavi and Iniesta. He played 26 times in Champions League scoring 3 goals. He was able to achieve more success in La Liga by winning the title in 2012/13. Other trophies won by Barcelona during his 3 year stay includes; Copa del Rey 2011/12, Supercopa de España 2011, 2013, UEFA Super Cup 2011 and FIFA Club World Cup 2011.
Fabregas played for Barcelona 96 times in La Liga scoring 28 goals and returned to London in the summer of 2014 to Chelsea for a fee of £30 million winning the Premier League title and League Cup in his first year. On his return to England, he has played 109 matches for Chelsea in Premier League scoring 14 goals in the process (2 Premier League titles; 2014/15 and 2016/17 and a League Cup 2014/15 to show for his troubles)
Although his performance hasn’t been that great in Champions League, he has been able to get further 19 caps taking him to the exclusive group of players who has played 100 UEFA Champions League matches(group stage to final) and with the 3 goals he has scored for Chelsea so far, his total in champions league becomes 19 goals.
Cesc Fabregas has been around for a while and looking at his quality of play and contribution to his respective clubs, it’s easy to understand the reason why he’s among the greatest midfielder of his generation. Apart from his longevity, his other major attribute is the quality of assist he tends to provide for the strikers in his team. He’s second on the all-time assists list in the history of Premier League. It’s just a matter of time before he beat the record held by Ryan Giggs with 162 assists.
