Alcohol in chemistry is any organic compound which the hydroxyl group (OH) as its functional group, ethanol is a primary alcohol and the source of the drinkable alcohol. It might also interest you to know that alcohol is diuretic meaning it makes your body lose water or fluid generally thereby making you pee frequently.

It also reduces the secretion of Anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) meaning that your body will not be able to regulate the amount of water you lose through pee. Normally when you are getting dehydrated, ADH sets in and stops the kidney from producing more urine, the more reason you urinate less when dehydrated.
