One difficulty that faces the Christian parent is how to perform the balancing act between exposure and protection. That is, what's the borderline between safe and dangerous exposure to worldly contacts, socials, and amusements? Many a godly parent sincerely lives with this dilemma and often wonders just how much fun these young ones should be allowed to have, without abusing it and without getting entangled and defiled.

Here, parents have real work to do. And to succeed, they must get actively interested and involved in the world of present-day youths. It'll do nobody any good, if parents just dismiss their children's interest in every fad and fashion, without taking time to listen to their viewpoint. This' especially so in matters that the Bible prescribes no clear command.

You must show some interest in what interests them, with a view to getting proper understanding of their world and being able to reason with them and help them. If they're aware, you too have some knowledge of their world, they won't easily pass you off as an ignorant old-school. But have more respect for you and will be willing to listen to your parental counsel.
