Most women have doubts when it comes to what’s normal and what’s not about their menstrual cycle, irrespective of how much they may understand their bodies. Some women don’t experience the pains and cramps associated with menstrual flow or premenstrual symptoms. However for other women, they recoil in fear and trepidation when the date for their period approaches.

These five signs are sure to tell if you have a healthy monthly flow or not;

1. Cervical fluids during ovulation

After your monthly menstrual flow, you should have cervical fluids during ovulation. This indicates a healthy menstruation and ovulation.

2. Color of your period

The normal healthy color of your menstrual blood should be cranberry red. A dark red color may indicate an underlying, undiagnosed health condition. Having a heavy blood flow and severe blood clots during their period might be caused by poor uterine circulation. It may also indicate hormonal imbalance.

3. Your period should be between 25-35 days long

A normal menstrual cycle should lie between 25-35 days long. It shouldn’t be less than 25 days. If the duration of your cycle is not steady and keeps fluctuating, then see your doctor.

A condition called Luteal Phase Defect, caused by hormonal imbalance, may be one of the many reasons why your cycle is less than 25 days. This defect causes the level of estrogen to rise too high. This condition may mean you have amenorrhea or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

4. Flow of your period

It is typical for a woman with a healthy menstrual cycle to lose about three to nine tablespoons of blood, depending also on lifestyle and other factors.

If your flow is heavy such that you need to change your sanitary pads or menstrual cups often and you don’t do strenuous activities often, then you should see your doctor.

5. Duration of your period
