BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The mother of Ben Carson died Monday, according to an online announcement. Carson, the Hopkins neurosurgeon and secretary of U.S. Housing and Urban Development, said in a Facebook post at about 6 p.m. that he lost his "dear mother, Sonya Carson" today. Carson, the Hopkins neurosurgeon and secretary of U.S. Housing and Urban Development, said in a Facebook post at about 6 p.m. that he lost his "dear mother, Sonya Carson" today. Carson has attributed much of his educational and career success to his mother. Sonya Carson was memorialized in Carson's biography, "Gifted Hands." Despite being illiterate and facing many challenges in her life, she pushed her son to focus on education and succeed in school.
