The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology established to promote the development and utilization of Nigeria’s industrial raw materials; based on the recommendations of a workshop on industrial matters organised by the then Federal Ministry of Industry, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) in July, 1983. It commenced operations five years later in 1988.

The results of the Agency’s work over the years have never been needed as they are today when dwindling oil revenue forces the nation to look inwards and develop her natural resources that had been ignored for a long time because of a dubious ease occasioned by Petro-Naira. Today, the need for diversification of the economy, import substitution, identification, processing and utilisation of locally available raw materials have made RMRDC a dependable repository which the nation consults for information on how to build her comparative advantages to competitive levels through value addition. CACHE interviewed the Director General and Chief Executive of the Agency, Dr. H. D.
