A father who punched his newborn daughter to death has been found dead in his prison cell.

Liam Deane, 22, punched and shook his two-day-old to death because she wouldn't stop crying.

The 22-year-old was jailed a month ago for murdering his daughter Luna in July.

The baby, named Luna, died in intensive care at Leeds infirmary after suffering “catastrophic brain injuries”.

Deane was found dead in his cell at HMP Leeds on Sunday and another inmate, John Westland, 28, has been charged with murder.

Flanked by a dock officer and two police officers, Westland spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

Luna’s mum had left her with Deane while she went to get some sleep.

But he lost his temper...
